the evolution of horse and unicorn

44cm x 29cm, 2010

My friend K supplied the translations to this piece. (Thank you K!) The above was painted on the pages of an old, discarded Russian encyclopedia. These two pages discuss the evolution of the horse and research provided by the Russian scientist Kovalesvsky, who wrote to Darwin concurring with his theory on evolution.
The diagram on the right illustrates the evolution of the horse and my drawings on the left illustrate the fanciful "evolution" of the unicorn.
They are labeled as following:
Эласмотерий - Elasmotherium
Моноцерус - Monocerus
Единорог - Unicorn
Неведомое - Mysterious (unknown)
