#2 a series inspired from Joy
I just completed this painting and friends have begun asking about the use of origami in the series. Theorizing one’s work is like catching an insect and spearing it to a board. & I haven’t quite pinned down my thoughts.
But roughly, origami is an analogy for femininity. It's an aesthetic means in which I may approach a critique on femininity. It's a delicate art in which one folds and pinches a flat plane into a shape - sometimes lovely, sometimes kitschy. There is a fine line between origami as a parlor trick and origami as a gentle and aesthetic craft.
Plus I like the way origami horses run.
